Kintail Ventile Shirt

Excellent product perfect for the hill

I have a couple of garments from Hilltrek in Ventile and if you do not know this material and enjoy the outdoors then you need to. The feeling of cotton against you is very pleasant and it breathes so well but come a downpour and the Ventile kicks in keeping the worst of the rain off of you without the need of membranes or chemicals. This shirt is a wonderful bit of kit, beautifully made, great fit and so easy to pack I love just having this on a day walking the hills in warmer seasons or any time in a temperate city because if the rain arrives there is no need to wish you had a raincoat since your shirt does the job. All of this may sound gushing but a material that protected downed pilots in the North Sea and English Channel 80 years ago deserves some kudos and I am so glad its still manufactured to this quality. Buy one, I find it unlikely you will ever regret it.

I've been through Outer Hebridean rain, hail and very strong winds on sunny and rainy days in the first week of wear where I wore the shirt for at least part of most days cycling, walking and fishing. Sized very much on the larger side I can wear it over or under a thin fleece shirt which extends the temperature range nicely. I can definitely see this getting a lot of use. One issue for me is the cuff opening, which is very short, makes rolling up the sleeves a bit of a faff (I roll my sleeves up and down a lot) and I wonder how long the stitching will last. There is also no overlap on the cuff so you can't batten it down fully in a real blow. A minor weak point but I found myself using it as a showerproof wind shirt more than anything else as I am sure will others. Other than the cuffs a very impressive piece of kit. I may well order another one!

Initially concerned that the fit was more roomy than a dress shirt but found with use and insulation underneath that it was exceptionally comfortable and wind proof eliminating need for a jacket. Yet to be tested in light rain.

Best shirt on the market

More like a jacket in some ways. But I just tested it in sharp rain in the Preselli hills and it was very very good.. comfortable and light, wind and rainproof. I haven't cleaned or washed it yet, but so far I am very happy.. and e service from the company is tip top
