Inspired by the much loved, but sadly no longer available, Greenspot Nomad Jacket made by Bertram Dudley and Son of Yorkshire, the double-layered Organic Greenspot® DV Jacket is designed for cold weather cycle touring along with a wide range of other uses.

The organic fabric features PFC-free water repellency and the front pockets are angled to give accessibility on the move plus there are easily accessible rear pockets for map storage. An optional hood is available which fits over a cycle helmet and also makes the jacket more versatile for walking. Optional side tabs enable the waist to be adjusted.

    Serious jacket for serious weather

Posted by Bob Donaldson on 5th Jan 2021

You'll be looking forward to stormy, wet, windy and cold weather with this substantial and organic waterproof jacket.

Tired of getting wet and then cold in conventional waterproofs (when on long cycling trips) I decided to invest in some serious kit and buy a
HillTrek Double Ventile organic cotton jacket.

Living in the UK where it is frequently cold, wet and windy I couldn't wait to try it out on the first dismal day after purchase. It didn't disappoint. Despite the freezing drizzle I remained both dry and toasty warm. Later I went out in snow, sleet and freezing rain and had the same experience.

The hood (for which you pay extra) is a key feature for me. Most hoods won't go over cycling helmets. Not so with this jacket. Even with a headlamp mounted on my helmet I could easily slip the hood on over the top. An integral wire keeps the hood hem from drooping over your line of sight (essential when cycling on the roads!) giving good visibility (even when turning head sideways to check for traffic) while keeping your head warm and dry.

The jacket itself is a joy to wear. I found it fitted well even over several underlayers, and has amble space in the deep pockets for storage (although I generally use panniers and other areas on bike for stowage) which is handy for stuffing gloves, snacks etc safely away out of the wet.

Only one small niggle is the slightly tighter fit around the cuffs (which could be an issue if wearing bulky gloves/mittens under the garment).

It felt good to buy from a small Scottish business rather than a big name. The team were super-helpful in keeping me informed of the status of my order (which took a little longer because of the pandemic), but managed to deliver just in time for Christmas!

I literally I looking forward to the next named storm so I can get my jacket back on again, pull over the hood and enjoy watching the chilly rain drops slide effortlessly off the fabric while enjoying the warm glow inside.

    Jacket

Bought this for my daughter who is just delighted with it. She rarely buys new clothes for ethical reasons, but agreed to this because of the materials used and how it supports a rural economy.

    Organic DV jacket

As soon as I took the jacket out of the packaging I could feel the weight of the double ventile, see the strong and tidy stitching and the jacket fits perfectly. I chose yellow which I’m delighted with. The designer clearly has ridden a great deal or has taken expert advice because the pockets are in the right orientation and height, generous cuts to allow cycling with drops or upright and the clever hood that goes over a helmet. I love ventile. It kept the wind off in the 80’s when I worked in the Antarctic and it keeps the wind off me now whether cycling in the West Country or birding in Orkney!
